Play Recalls Vietnam War

By Carol Horning Stacey | 10/11/2019

Best of Broadway series begins next Wednesday, October 23rd, with the opening of “Miss Saigon” at the First Interstate Center for the Arts (former Opera House) in Spokane. Created by the same people who brought us “Les Miserables,” “Miss Saigon” is a sprawling complicated tale centered around an affair between a marine and a bar girl that ends in tragedy.

The play is best known for its depiction of the U.S. inglorious evacuation of Saigon – from rooftops by helicopter – a technical marvel when seen on stage. The show will be in Spokane for only 5 days, October 23rd-27th. Check BroadwaySpokane.com or call 800-325-SEAT.

Saigon’s name now is Ho Chi Minh City, where over 8 million people, mostly young, mostly work in factories turning out shoes and stuff we buy, so they can buy motorcycles and cell phones. But that’s a story for another musical.
