Museum Photo: Ohio Match Railroad

By Museum of North Idaho | 08/15/2016

In 1923 the manager of Ohio Match’s western operation, Perl Bailey, built a railroad from Garwood and the Spokane International Railroad eastward to the Burnt Cabin Summit in the Coeur d'Alene National Forest. The railroad was built to accommodate harvesting 80,000 million acres that contained white pine lumber used for matches. The Ohio Match railroad was in operation from 1924 until 1944. The line was later extended to beyond Horse Haven. Perl Bailey (with the cigar) with a load of logs on the Spokane International Railroad. Museum of North Idaho photo TrR-12-15
