“Into the Woods” opens Oct. 4th at the Kroc Center in CdA

By Aspire CdA Press Release | 09/25/2024

Be careful what you wish for... Into the Woods is a musical journey of desires, curses, and consequences. James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece...and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his Wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his Wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

One of Sondheim’s most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with musical direction being helmed by Scott Michaelsen. Relatively new to the area, Michaelsen has already made his mark with several local companies -- educational to professional. Michaelsen noted, “I love the story of Into the Woods and the intricacy of the score that is always revealing new clever details, despite having done the show twice before. Also, I had a marvelous time working with Aspire on Spamalot earlier this year and was thrilled to work with the company again!”

Nick Lyons may be more familiar to Aspire audiences as a performer (Captain Walker in last season’s The Who’s Tommy, Nick Bottom in Something Rotten, The Monster in Young Frankenstein); is directing for the first time for Aspire. He says, “I have always loved shows that have a lot of room for creative choice and design. Into the Woods has beautiful music, a very thought provoking, yet hilarious book, and some really powerful moral messages.”

Don’t miss this musically sophisticated masterpiece performed by some of the Inland Northwest’s finest performers!

Tickets are available at aspirecda.com, by email tickets@aspirecda.com, or phone 208-696-4228; discounted group rates are also available. This show has a PG rating.

Aspire is in its 8th season, presenting its 4-show format of musical theatre at its home venue, the Midge & Pepper Smock Family Theater nestled within the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Coeur d’Alene.
